
Making Bathroom Heaters That Actually Feel Good (And Are Safe)
Nobody likes stepping out of a hot shower into a freezing bathroom. It’s a shock to the system. Infrared heaters are great because they give you that instant, cozy warmth, but there’s a catch: you don’t want your heater to feel like a stadium floodlight. Especially if you’ve got kids or babies in the house, that blinding glare is a no-go. Here is how we handle that. Dealing with the glare Standard IR lamps can be way too bright. They emit this harsh white light that strains your eyes. To fix this, we use special coatings on the quartz glass. Think of it like a pair of sunglasses for the heater. It blocks out the blinding light and UV rays but lets the actual heat slide right through. You get the warmth on your skin, but your eyes stay relaxed. The guts of the machine We use halogen-filled tubes for a reason. They keep the temperature steady and stop the filament from wearing out too fast. It just makes the lamp last longer. We’re also picky about the connectors. We use R7s snap-ins because they stay tight. If a connection is loose, you get sparks—or “arcing”—which basically fries the socket. Not a great look for a bathroom. The balancing act Now, it’s tempting to just crank up the wattage for maximum heat. But there’s a limit. If you put too much power into a small fixture, the whole housing starts to overheat. It’s a bit of a trade-off. You want it warm, but you don’t want the unit to cook itself. That’s why we add a thermal cutoff switch. If the airflow gets blocked or things get too hot, the switch just kills the power. It’s a simple safety net that saves the hardware. And since we know things eventually wear out, we designed these to be easy to fix. When a tube finally pops, you can just swap in a new one without having to rip open your walls or redo the wiring. Just pop it out, snap a new one in, and you’re warm again.
