
The Real Headache with High-Ceiling Heaters (and How We Fixed It)
If you’re mounting infrared heaters 20 or 30 feet up in the air, you’ve probably noticed something annoying. Heat doesn’t just travel down toward the floor. It actually creeps backward, heading right for the electrical connections. This is where things usually go south.
Why your leads keep failing
Most heaters on the market are built with basic crimps or some cheap glue to hold the wires in place. That works fine for a while. But once those units hit operating temperature, that cheap stuff starts to give up. The insulation gets brittle. It cracks. Then, dust and moisture sneak into the junction, causing oxidation. Eventually? You get a short circuit. Now, here’s the real kicker. When a heater fails at that height, it’s not just a broken part. It’s a logistical nightmare. You have to go find a scissor lift, haul it across the floor, and spend half your day just to fix a tiny wire. It’s a waste of time.
How we do it differently
We decided to stop the “heat creep” before it starts. Instead of using generic glues, we use high-temp ceramic potting compounds and precision-crimped terminals. We make sure the spot where the quartz tube meets the wire is completely airtight. This stops the “burn out” effect. You know the one—where the wire insulation literally melts away from the heat source. The secret is in how the materials move. Metal expands when it gets hot. If the seal doesn’t expand at the exact same rate, it just pops right off. We matched those rates so the seal stays put, no matter how hot it gets.
A quick tip for installation
There is one trade-off. Because our seals are much tougher, the leads are a bit stiffer. You can’t just bend these wires into a sharp angle like you can with the cheap, unsealed versions. Give your wiring some slack. If you pull the wires too tight during the install, you might crack the potting compound. And if that happens, you’ve basically undone all the hard work we put into the seal. Just leave a little wiggle room, and you’re golden.
