
Getting the Light Right in Home Infrared Heaters
When we’re putting together infrared lamps for a nursery or a bathroom, the biggest headache isn’t actually the heat. It’s the light. Standard short-wave lamps are blinding. They’ve got this harsh, piercing glare that’s just too much for the eyes—especially for a baby. Nobody wants a heater that feels like a spotlight in an interrogation room. So, we change how the light behaves. Keeping eyes safe To fix that glare, we use special quartz envelopes and internal coatings. Think of it like a filter. We push the energy away from the visible light and move it toward the medium and long-wave bands. The result? Instead of a blinding white flash, you get a soft, dim glow. It feels cozy. You get all that warmth on your skin, but you don’t have to squint or deal with that annoying blink reflex. Heat vs. Brightness Here’s the thing: industrial lamps (the kind used for curing paint or plastic) are incredibly efficient, but they’re way too aggressive for a living room ceiling. We focus on the 700nm to 1mm wavelength range. It’s a sweet spot. It keeps the heat steady and comforting without turning your bathroom into a bright stadium. A few things to keep in mind There is a trade-off, though. Because we’re filtering the light, these lamps don’t “snap” to full heat instantly. They take a beat longer to ramp up. Just keep that in mind when you’re tweaking your thermostat so you don’t accidentally crank it too high while waiting for it to kick in. And please,give your fixtures room to breathe. Even if the light is soft, that quartz tube is still scorching hot. If you cram it into a tight space without proper venting, you’re going to warp your plastic trim or fry the socket. Give it some air, and it’ll last much longer.
