
Why we put our bathroom heaters through the “steam torture test”
If you put a heater in a bathroom, you’re basically asking it to survive a cycle of extreme heat and thick, heavy steam. Every single day. Now, we build our infrared lamps to IP65 standards. That’s the technical way of saying “we keep the water out.” But here’s the thing: a seal that works on day one isn’t always enough. Metal and plastic expand when they get hot and shrink when they cool down. Over time, that movement can create tiny, microscopic gaps in the housing. That’s why we don’t just trust the seal. We put every batch through damp-heat aging tests.
The “breathing” problem
Water vapor is sneaky. It gets into places liquid water can’t. Think of it like this: when the lamp is on, the air inside the chassis heats up and expands. When you flip the switch off, it cools down and actually sucks in the moist air from your bathroom. It’s basically breathing. If those seals aren’t perfect, that moisture goes straight onto the electrical contacts. That leads to rusty terminals or, even worse, a short circuit. We use a controlled chamber to simulate years of this “breathing” in a matter of days, just to see exactly where the seals might give up.
Looking for the breaking point
We aren’t just checking if the unit is waterproof the moment it leaves the factory. We want to know what happens six months or two years down the road. We push the units through repeated thermal shocks in high-humidity environments. We’re looking for the ugly stuff—burnt-out wiring or corrosion on the reflectors. If it’s going to fail, we want it to fail in our lab, not in your ceiling.
The balancing act
Here is the tricky part: if you make a seal too tight, you trap the heat inside. If the unit is completely airtight, the internal driver can actually cook itself because the heat has nowhere to go. It’s a bit of a tug-of-war. We have to balance that IP65 waterproofing with smart venting and high-grade thermal materials so the lamp stays dry without overheating its own guts. We’ll show you our test reports because anyone can claim a product is “waterproof.” But a damp-heat aging curve? That’s a fact. It’s the only way to be sure your heater won’t quit on you after a few months of steamy showers.
