When you’re picking out an IP55 infrared heater for your bathroom, the instinct is usually to go for the biggest, most powerful one on the shelf. But here’s the thing: more power isn’t always better. It’s actually about finding the right fit for your space so you aren’t just throwing money away on your electric bill. Size matters. If you’ve got a tiny powder room—something under 4m²—a 400W to 600W lamp is plenty. If you put a monster heater in a closet-sized room, it’ll hit the target temperature in seconds and then shut off. Then it kicks back on. Then off again. This “short-cycling” is a killer; it wears out the relays way faster than they should. For those medium-sized bathrooms (between 4m² and 8m²), I usually suggest something in the 800W to 1200W range. Now, if you’re dealing with a massive master bath over 10m², you’ll need 1500W or more. But don’t just buy one giant unit. Infrared heat moves in a straight line. If you stick one massive heater in a far corner, you’ll be roasting on one side of the room while your toes are freezing on the other. Hook these lamps up to a timer or a humidity sensor instead. When you match the wattage to the actual size of the room, you stop putting unnecessary stress on your circuit.
